AGRIGENTO – They pass themselves off as lawyers and policemen and, speaking of road accidents or unpaid fines for which it is better to avoid legal trouble, they defraud the elderly. There are four cases, between Agrigento, Canicattì and Ravanusa, which have been reported to the Carabinieri.
In Agrigento, a man posing as the victim’s lawyer of a road accident caused by the 85-year-old’s daughter, he had the woman deliver 2,000 euros and several gold jewels. A fake Army soldier instead had 750 euros and several gold objects delivered by a 74-year-old to avoid legal trouble for her son, who had been involved in a serious road accident, which never occurred.
Canicattì
In Canicattì, two men, qualifying themselves as a policeman and lawyer, they induced a 71-year-old to give them money and gold jewelery for a total of 22,000 euros, with the excuse of avoiding legal trouble for the pensioner’s nephew, accused of having caused a serious road accident.
Ravanusa
In Ravanusa, a man, posing as an Army soldier, instead he asked a 77-year-old to give him 4,000 euros, a ring and a gold necklace with the excuse of paying a fine for the woman’s son.
“Do not open to strangers”
The provincial command of Carabinieri of Agrigento after the 4 cases of fraud reported in the city of the Temples, in Canicattì and Ravanusa, he calls everyone to be extremely cautious.
“Don’t open up to strangers. Check the identities: a real official of the Municipality, Post Office, INPS, Inail or a gas or electricity technician never shows up at home without warning – the Carabinieri remind – do not allow anyone to collect bills or check home payments, ask to see an identification card.
Attention to false employees: the real ones, perhaps from a bank, do not offer home services and do not be convinced by those who present themselves as representatives of charitable or religious bodies”.
