The number of donors in Lombardy is growing and the response to blood needs allows the region to be self-sufficient. The negative notes instead concern young donors, still too few, and the plasmawhose collection is insufficient and forces Italy to import it from the United States.
The assembly
This is what emerged this morning at the 53rd annual meeting ofRegional Avis, which took place in Brescia in the provincial headquarters of the association, in Piazzetta Avis. In all, in Lombardy there are 261,811 registered members, which grew in 2023 by 10.39% (+23,827) compared to the previous year, with donations remaining stable: 463,822 divided into 382,546 bags of whole blood, 76,237 of apheresis and 5,039 of other donations.
The annual meeting was also an opportunity to illustrate the projects launched in 2023 and which are taking shape: from technological initiatives, such as the telemedicineto the growing proactive presence of Avis Lombardia in institutions and strategic tables.
Large presence in the assembly of representatives of the regional council, with the president Attilio Fontana and the councilors Romano Larussa, Barbara Mazzali and Elena Lucchini, delegate for the Family and Third Sector, who announced thetariff adjustment on the subject of blood donation: «We want to be close to these volunteers who dedicate their time to others – he said – not only with our presence, but also in a proactive way, with a resolution that has adjusted the rates for transfusion activities of Avis, giving from an economic point of view, a little oxygen to this association».
