On the ninth day of the entrance fee to Venice, 18,510 paying people were registered, an increase compared to the previous day but a decrease compared to last weekend.

VENICE. The ninth day of the access fee to Venice, part of the experimental legislation introduced by the 2019 Budget Law and subsequently updated in 2021, aims to manage tourist flows in a more sustainable way and reduce daily tourism in the city, especially during periods of greater turnout. This system helps preserve the uniqueness and delicacy of Venice.

Today 18,510 paying people registered, an increase compared to yesterday, but lower than last weekend. 56,636 codes have been issued for exempt guests in accommodation facilities, who do not have to pay the contribution because they already pay the tourist tax. These numbers include various categories: new arrivals, staying guests and departures. Exemptions are also provided for residents in Veneto or in the metropolitan city (3,811), students (16,390), workers (23,001), property owners who pay IMU or holders of rental contracts who have not transferred their residence to the city historical (7,001), and relatives (2,513).

During the day, 16,904 QR codes were verified, without finding any particular problems. Tomorrow will be the tenth day of the access fee, with further dates scheduled for May 5, 11, 12, 18, 19, 25, 26; 8, 9, 15, 16, 22, 23, 29, 30 June; 6, 7, 13 and 14 July 2024. Control times remain the same: 8.30am-4pm.

The mayor of Venice reiterated the objective of the access contribution: “Making the city livable for residents, workers, students and tourists.”

Also tomorrow, and during all other days with an access fee, physical gates will be activated at the main entry points to Venice, with priority gates for residents and workers. Stewards will check visitors’ QR codes and help those who do not have one to download the entry ticket and pay the fee on site. Anyone who passes the gates without the access fee will be subject to a fine.

Approximately 75 informant stewards will be involved in 16 areas, 40 verifier stewards and 35 inspectors in 15 control points, mainly in the Ferrovia area, Piazzale Roma and San Zaccaria. 70 information totems will be distributed at the access points to the city, as well as Chioggia and Punta Sabbioni.

This initiative is an important step to ensure the sustainability of tourism in Venice and preserve its unique heritage.
