there is a hole of 1.7 million. «And in 2025 it will be even worse»

Down by 1.7 million euros. For now, because from next year, if nothing is done about it, there is a risk of there being many more. In short, things don’t add up at Palazzo dei Priori, according to what emerges from the final balance sheet.

The group leader of the Democratic Party Alvaro Ricci and that of the League, Andrea Micci, raised the alarm: in 2023 the expenses were much higher than the revenues. «For the first time I don’t know how long – says the dem – we are below 1.7 million. It’s a huge alarm bell, it means you’ve made a mistake. Last year we were above 700 thousand. Now I understand why they renegotiated the mortgages, postponing the repayment to 2025, otherwise it would have been a disaster.”

It’s difficult to calculate, but according to Ricci we’re talking about «a few million. And a further problem looms for next year. In fact, for 2024 the increases in the cost of the council are still covered by the government, but from 2025 there will also be this increased expense. The auditors say it clearly.” For now the situation is covered in the game between the active and passive residuals and we are in balance, «but that money must be recovered or we risk paralyzing the budget.

The Northern League member is on the same line. «Account alarm after only 22 months of Frontini administration. Palazzo dei Priori spends more than it collects, according to the 2023 management report. Looking around, it seems difficult to believe: streets full of potholes, tall grass, dry fountains without cleaning, spa tourism is no longer even talked about, hamlets practically forgotten , part of the money to restore Francigena was asked from the people of Viterbo with the increase in the hourly rate, and the increase in the Tari with the new urban hygiene service is also just around the corner.” The question to Micci arises spontaneously: «But, in short, where does the Municipality spend the money? The 2023 management report closes in the negative and today certifies what we have been saying for months now: the Frontini administration doesn’t know which way to turn and, perhaps, for this very reason, it spends on everything and nothing, without result. Today the 2023 management report becomes a bit like a litmus test of obvious shortcomings, as also demonstrated by the small number of municipal councils in these 22 months, the agendas reduced to a bare minimum, with very few practices to examine and vote on keep the municipal machine going. The city is at a standstill.”

He too goes through the council’s portfolio. «And to think that the allowances paid to the mayor and the council of seven councilors has increased dramatically, costing the citizens of Viterbo over a million euros a year. If we haven’t seen great results so far, we wonder what to expect in the coming months with money starting to run out. We remember that the municipal coffers, upon Frontini’s arrival at Palazzo dei Priori, were in good health, with the same positive account balances and the avalanche of millions of euros obtained with the Pnrr by those who preceded her. A legacy kept quiet by those who, until today – concludes Micci – have appeared interested only in compiling a list of the demerits of those who were there before”.
