From Thursday 2 May there was a succession of workshop meetings and exchange of experiences: starting with the day dedicated to schools with the 350 students from the Alfano I, Severi, De Sanctis and Da Vinci-Genovesi institutes who met at the Social Center to share a “space for discussion” on what chorality is today. Today the choirs were welcomed at the Stazione Marittima with the opening ceremony followed by the study and concertation of the ensemble pieces by Maestro Basilio Astulez Duque; in the afternoon (from 3 pm) laboratory activities at the Convitto Nazionale “T. Tasso”, at the San Michele Complex and at the Morticelli.

Tomorrow morning the workshops start at 9.30; at 11.30 the church of San Benedetto hosts the Study and Concertation of ensemble pieces by Maestro Basilio Astulez Duque. Entrance is free.

These are the laboratories: concertation and executionto explore and deepen the pieces of one’s repertoire with internationally renowned masters, so as to receive technical and artistic suggestions in order to improve the performance along the way; vocality and psychophony, to research approaches to emission that take into account the individual singer and his being a musical instrument par excellence. The choirs will work on vocal technique to discover other aspects of singing, experimenting with different approaches and developing awareness in emission and beyond. Team Building, to explore aspects of the relationship and its problems, experiencing first-hand the tools necessary to be a “group” and become a “choir” in all respects, through listening and observation. AND sound yoga, to enter the secrets of breathing and the energy centers of the voice, rediscovering oneself as true singers through awareness of one’s mind and body. These are the choirs participating: the Garda Trentino Children’s Choir, Le Voci del 48, the Lucrezia Della Valle Polyphonic Choir, the Liceo Musicale Parmenide Choir, the InCanto Youth Choir, the Artemìa Giovani Voci, the Teen…Canto, the Ensemble Vocale Sunrise, the Teen Chorus, Voicing and the Alfano I High School Choir. Among the members of the jury also Basilio Astulez Duque, teacher at the Musikene Superior Conservatory of the Basque Country and director of the EHGA, the Basque Youth Choir.

THE SPECIAL PRIZES. Six are special awards this year and consist of cash scholarships. The “Francesca Viscido” Award it will go to the Youth Choir which will have unanimously “excited” the jurors: intonation, vocal quality, good interpretation define a choir making it more or less of quality. The ability to “Com-muvere” (to move with) and to excite is a rare and special quality, an added value that deserves to be underlined and rewarded. The “Dante Cianciaruso” Award it will be for the Youth Choir that has obtained the highest score in the performance of the Ancient Music piece. The Youth Choir that stands out for the best performance of a contemporary piece will go the “C(a)ntemporary” Award . The “Chiara Pepe” Award will be assigned to the choir that has been able to use dance, stage presence and creativity as real “tools” to support, integrate and enhance choral singing. The winning Youth Choir will be honored with a work by Chiara Pepe. The “Paola Galdi” Award it will be awarded to the director of the Youth Choir who has particularly distinguished himself in leading, guiding and directing his group; while the “ReperTop” Award will be awarded to the choir that will present a program capable of highlighting its versatility, following a precise common thread (a theme, a text, an author, etc.).
