Latest Generation activists searched in Padua, Pd and AVS protest: “Even minors, Piantedosi report”

Cell phones and PCs of five Last Generation activists seized by the Padua Police. It was the same environmental group that informed of the Digos searches. According to the activists, the intervention of the agents was due to the failed blitz of the activists, armed with chalk, a Zabarella Palace of Padua, where an exhibition was underway. “Searches are underway in Padua in the homes of some Last Generation activists” one of the members of the environmentalist collective explained to Adnkronos. One of them, explains the collective, was taken to the police station. “They started knocking on the door, ordering ‘either open it or we’ll knock it down’: they also searched my PC and mobile phone”.

Just under a month ago there was another episode linked to a Last Generation activity. A reporter from the newspaper Il Mattino of Padua – who was at Palazzo Zabarella for an announced action by the students – was taken to the police station and detained without explanation and without the release of a report after four hours. A case that had triggered the intervention of the cdr and also of some politicians. After the searches, Ultima Generazione organized a garrison in front of the police station.

“Environmental protest must be listened to, not repressed. The searches in the homes of activists of the Last Generation – declares the group leader of the Green and Left Alliance in the Chamber Luana Zanella – it is yet another proof of a choice by the Interior Ministry to treat the protests as criminal phenomena. We are on their side of the Last Generation and we condemn a government that in the face of climate disaster speaks loudly against those who ask for solutions”.

“Minister Piantedosi should report to Parliament as soon as possible on what happened in Padua this night towards Last Generation activists, among whom there would also be minors” Alessandro Zan, member of the national secretariat of the Democratic Party in a note. “’Open or we’ll break down the door’, searches, seizures of cell phones and PCs: this cannot be the State’s response to girls and boys who fight peacefully to combat climate change. This episode follows what already happened in recent weeks, when a reporter from Mattino di Padova was detained at the police station for several hours. Law enforcement agencies can never be subjected to political pressure that generates reactions that appear inadequate and disproportionate to the circumstances. The right-wing government, which has thrown mud and launched a campaign of hatred towards these activists, even calling them “terrorists”, is responsible for this unprecedented climate of control and repression. Piantedosi must clarify.”
