two industrial production plants seized

TURIN – The soldiers of the Provincial Command of the Guardia di Finanza of Turin, as part of an intervention aimed at protecting the environment, have identified in a municipality on the outskirts of the capital two industrial plants attributable to the same Turin company, operating in the production sector of automotive oil filters, inside which over 100,000 liters of liquid waste harmful to health had been deposited, as well as several quintals of solid waste.

The intervention was conducted by the Financiers of the 2nd Turin Metropolitan Operational Unit together with the staff of the Regional Agency for Environmental Protection (ARPA) of Piedmont, following info-investigative activities which led to the discovery of the industrial warehouses where , over the years, various types of waste had been piled up in violation of environmental legislation: tanks containing dangerous liquids (including solvents, thinners and paint strippers) deriving from production waste, ten containers and numerous polypropylene bags (so-called bigbags), inside which tons of solid waste and even asbestos panels were piled up.

The activity also made it possible to detect the presence of a plastic pipe which, over the years, would likely have leaked harmful liquid material into the sewer system.
The entire industrial area, estimated at approximately 20,000 square meters, was subjected to
seizure, while the managers of the company who have succeeded one another in recent years, for whom the presumption of innocence remains until the responsibilities have been ascertained, have been referred to the Judicial Authority for unauthorized waste management activities.

The operation under review demonstrates the commitment made by the Guardia di Finanza, due to the competitive function recognized in the activities of preventing and combating crimes in environmental matters, which if not promptly repressed can lead to serious consequences for the health of the community.
