ATHLETICS – Anticipation is growing for the ninth Lucca Half Marathon which will take place on Sunday morning starting at 9am. Already over 1200 have registered for the race which will be based on the attempt of Bernard Musau Wambua, a strong Kenyan from the GP Alpi Apuane, to beat the record by Hosea Kisorio Kimeli (1h.01’59”) which dates back to 2015. On Saturday the “Lucchesina” non-competitive race to discover the beauty of the city.
For whom does the ninth ring? There are many editions (double stop due to covid in 2020 and 2021) with the one taking place on Sunday 5 May of the Lucca Half Marathon, the Half Marathon in more local terms, organized by the dynamic and strong-willed managers of Lucca Marathon led by president Francesco Rosi. There is no shortage of tasty news from a highly anticipated race which will start at 9 in the morning on a modified route but made faster and smoother also to encourage good technical performance. The departure will take place on the walls between Baluardo San Paolino and Santa Maria while the arrival, after the classic 21.095 km, is set in Piazza Napoleone. We were talking about excellent performance and times. In this sense, the presence of the strong Bernard Musau Wambua of the Apuan Alps GP of president Graziano Poli should be noted (and stands out). The Kenyan athlete boasts a personal best of 1h.00’41” set in 2022 at the Pisa half marathon and which portends his attack on the running record set by his compatriot Hosea Kisorio Kimeli in 2015 in 1h.01’59” . At the time, and has been for many years, Kimeli defended the colors of Virtus Lucca. There are already over 1300 members who will be able to grow in the last few hours while there will be 200 volunteers committed to ensuring that everything runs in perfect order.
