Modica told by its inhabitants: the neighborhood walks of “Modicaltra” arrive
Descriptive text here

The Neighborhood Walks arrive in May:
four appointments to get to know Modica
told by its inhabitants.
May for Modicaltra will be the month of Neighborhood Walks. In
waiting for the new edition of the Neighborhood Cinema, Modicaltra returns
among the alleys and forgotten places of the city. From Giacanta to Modica
Alta, passing through Cartellone and Vignazza, the walks will see
the alternation of moments dedicated to historical analysis and
cultural and memories of the inhabitants of the neighborhoods, custodians of stories
and memories of the past.
The initiative was born from the desire to learn more about some of the
oldest neighborhoods in the city, returning to stroll through alleys and
streets now almost forgotten. Thanks to the words of the guide inhabitants, stories, superstitions and anecdotes, but also traditions, will come to life again
and customs whose origins are lost over the centuries.
The first walk will be Saturday 4 May and will propose an itinerary between
history and superstitions in the Giacanta neighborhood. Driving i
participants will be the words of Marcella Burderi, teacher, author
and expert in oral memories of the Ibleans, and Mauro Cavallo, artist and
poet from Modica.
On Saturday 11 May we will take a walk to discover the Vignazza district,
accompanied by Francesco Galazzo, passionate singer of his neighborhood.
On Saturday 18 May we will go back in time: thanks to the words of
Giovanni Favaccio, lawyer and scholar of local history and traditions,
you will enter the heart of Cartellone in search of the ancient ghetto
Jewish.
Closing the Neighborhood Walks will be Giuseppe Catteri,
connoisseur of the history of Modica and collector of memorabilia
venues, which on Saturday 25 May will propose an itinerary in Modica Alta, between
stories, customs and childhood memories.
Each walk is free and will last an hour and a half
minutes, starting at 10.00 from the established meeting points.
