Bergamo, 2 May 2024 – Rokia and Asia Streparola, nurses and writers: this is the combination of training and creativity of two young women who studied and are studying Nursing at Humanitas University, and who have chosen to use words to tell their world of reality and fantasy .

Rokia and Asia Streparola will be the protagonists Saturday 4 May at 3pmof a meeting entitled “Between words and care”, organized by Humanitas University with the patronage of OPI, Order of Nursing Professions, in the Bergamo headquarters in via Moretti 11 on the occasion of International Nurses Day.

A way to discover, through the presentation of novel “Syndrome” by Rokia and of collection of poems “Kintsugi” by Streparolahow study training and the nursing profession can also be a starting point for creative narration.

ROKIA

Rokia, 25 years old, Italian of Moroccan origin, graduated in Nursing from Humanitas University, lives in Bergamo and began taking her first steps in writing very early. At 10 years old she won a competition for a story about her and at 15 she started sharing her first writings on Wattpad, the social reading social network from which many writers have started in recent years, obtaining up to 9 million readings; in 2022 she published her first novel “The truth untold” published by Magazzini Salani, which proved to be a real success, winning over thousands of readers.

In 2023 “Sindrome” was released, again published by Magazzini Salani. A reverse fairy-tale novel that tells of a witch, a prince, a dragon and a mermaid: four boys, Derek, Edgar, Olivia and Sia, who know pain and who go in search of a way to heal.
“Syndrome talks about mental disorders – says Rokia -. The passage that is most linked to the nursing field is the prologue, in particular a scene of a character – Olivia – who suffers from anorexia and is in hospital in contact with the nursing world. In this scene she has a feeding tube placed against her will, due to the critical situation she has reached. The novel is about 4 characters dealing with different mental disorders and their attempt to hide the illness and refuse treatment; it shows all the steps from rejection to acceptance, and how mental illnesses are considered taboo.”

ASIA STREPAROLA

Asia Streparola, 22 years old, born in Milan, is attending the degree course in Nursing at the headquarters of Humanitas University in Pieve Emanuele (Milan).

Kintsugi” is his first collection of poems-prose and words published by Nonsolopoesie Edizioni.

The title is an explicit reference to the Japanese technique of Kintsugi which uses a precious metal to bring together the pieces of a broken ceramic object, enhancing the new ribs which become precious textures; the parallelism is in life which requires looking for ways to cope positively with traumatic events, growing through one’s painful experiences, valorising them, making each person unique and precious.

HUMANITAS UNIVERSITY BERGAMO

The Three-year degree course in nursing at Humanitas University in Bergamo he is active in close collaboration With the’Humanitas Gavazzeni hospital, location of the internships. The teaching activity instead takes place in the spaces of via Moretti 11, managed by the professionals of Humanitas University and Humanitas Gavazzeni with the collaboration, for some subjects, of the University of Bergamo.

The meeting “Between words and care” will be held Saturday 4 May at 3pm in the Bergamo headquarters of Humanitas University, via Andrea Moretti 11 – Room 1, second floor.
