the police track him down and report him

The Carabinieri of the Parma Oltretorrente station have reported a 26-year-old foreigner, homeless in Italy, to freedom because he is currently believed to be responsible for a theft.

The facts date back to a few days ago when the manager of a city supermarket, at the end of the day, found various goods missing, including numerous bottles of liquor, worth around 2500 Euros.

At this point the person responsible turned to the Carabinieri di Strada della Fonderie and filed a complaint.

The Carabinieri thus started the investigation, starting from viewing the images acquired by the security cameras installed in the supermarket. Not having received precise information on the time of the theft, the investigators viewed hours and hours of footage until the perseverance of the soldiers made it possible to identify the perpetrator of the theft at the precise moment in which he took possession of the products. The man, after having taken the goods and placed them in the trolley, instead of going to the checkouts, placed the trolley near the exit, passing the checkouts, in the part reserved for “exit without purchases”. Once he left, all he did was take another empty trolley, approach the one left near the exit, which was easily reachable, and “pass” the goods, leaving undisturbed and losing track of himself.

Having identified the technique, the carabinieri, cross-referencing the data, including the anthropometric data of the author, managed to identify a 26-year-old foreigner who, shortly before, within other supermarkets of the same chain, but located in different regions, had committed thefts with the same technique.

At this point it was enough to compare the frame portraying the man inside the supermarket with the photographs present in the computer archives to obtain a positive response.

In conclusion, the investigation allowed us to acquire appreciable investigative evidence and to consider the 26th as the alleged perpetrator of the theft. At the end of the investigations, on the basis of the evidence acquired, the 26-year-old, without prejudice to the principle of innocence valid until a final sentence, was reported in a state of freedom to the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Parma because he was held responsible for the crime of theft.
