After Lombardy outbreak, EU updates PSA restriction zone in Italy

The EU Commission updated the map of the restriction zones relating to our country afterwards the case of Psa in a wild boar registered in Lombardy in ahigh risk area (close to the maximum restriction zone) which had not yet detected any contagion. Implementing Regulation (EU) 2023/594 establishing special disease control measures for African swine fever was updated on 29 April and has been in force since 1 May. In addition to Italy it also concerns restrictions in Czechia, Germany, Lithuania and Poland.

In essence the area in question passes from restricted area I (
high-risk areas without cases or outbreaks of ASF bordering restriction zones II, III) restricted zone II (presence of PSA only in wild boar).

At the moment the areas subject to restrictions II in Italy are:

  • Piedmont: 155 municipalities in the province of Alessandria, 46 in the province of Asti, 6 in the province of Cuneo and one in the province of Vercelli.
  • Lombardy: 213 municipalities in the province of Pavia, 9 in the province of Milan
  • Emilia Romagna: 30 in the province of Piacenza, 21 in the province of Parma,
  • Tuscany: 2 in the province of Massa Carrara
  • Lazio: area of ​​the municipality of Rome included in the administrative boundaries of the local health authority ASL RM1
  • Calabria: 25 municipalities in the province of Reggio Calabria
  • Basilicata: 5 municipalities in the province of Potenza
  • Campania: 8 municipalities in the province of Salerno
