Messina, opening of the Bulgarian Consulate: “historic day”

A little while ago, the mayor Federico Basile received in the civic headquarters of the city of MessinaPalazzo Zanca, the ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria to Italy, Todor Stoyanov, accompanied by the new honorary consul of Bulgaria in Messina Giovanni De Luca. Also present to welcome the High Diplomat and the delegation were the deputy mayor Salvatore Mondello with the general director Salvo Puccio and the councilor Massimiliano Minutoli.

The meeting, which was held in a cordial atmosphere, was an opportunity to discuss and develop a future intensification of relations between Messina and Bulgaria on aspects related to culture and university education, traditions and tourism but also the commercial and entrepreneurial aspect were the main themes of the discussion.

“Visit – commented Basile – it was particularly welcome both for the pleasure of receiving the attention of a growing country like Bulgaria and because it was an opportunity to present the opening of a Bulgarian Consulate in our city. The presence of a consular office in Messina represents an additional reason to be able to develop important relationships for our city through projects of exchange of cultural, social and economic experiences which will allow us to work on common projects also in terms of tourism and attraction”.

In perfect agreement, also the ambassador of Bulgaria who said he was enthusiastic about Messina, as well as expressing his desire to encourage and intensify collaboration paths between his country and the city of the Strait with its district. “Today we open a historical page – said the Ambassador – for us and for Messina. I am sure that the opening of the Consulate in your city will be a reason to intensify synergistic paths for the implementation of integrated programs with a view to mutual exchange of values ​​and growth opportunities”. The meeting in the Mayor’s office ended with the usual exchange of gifts, Basile honored the Ambassador with the civic crest and the mutual hope of meeting again soon.

Following this, the Mayor and the Ambassador met in the Flag Hall where, in the presence of city authorities, the ceremony to launch consular activities and the inauguration of Dr. was held. Giovanni De Luca as new honorary consul of the Republic of Bulgaria with Circumscription Messina, Catania, Syracuse, Ragusa and Enna. The works, started with institutional greetings from Mayor Basile, continued with the intervention of the new consul De Luca who presented the consular staff; and the greetings and speech of Ambassador Stoyanov. The appointment ended with the participation of Dr. Emanuele Bucceri who spoke on the topic of international taxation in the context of bilateral relations between Italy and Bulgaria.
