L’AQUILA – There is a technical-economic feasibility project to complete the safety operations of the hydrogeological risk area of the Fosso di San Giuliano.
“With this second intervention – explained the councilor for the environment Fabrizio Taranta – we complete the work of arranging the ditch which has already begun in an important way with the redevelopment of the Patitucci fountain and the square at the San Giuliano barrier which, in addition to giving the entire area a better and more organized appearance, also arranges the hydraulic part of a part of the ditch. To complete the work on the ditch we used funding from the Ministry of the Interior of 900 thousand euros. Now the second phase involves the upstream intervention for the overall arrangement of the ditch. Previously there had been smaller interventions, with these two more significant ones for a total of 2 million euros we are trying to give a definitive solution to the problem of the hydrogeological risk that could arise from the ditch which is one of the largest in L’Aquila and which has the greatest impact on inhabited centers”.
The Environment and Civil Protection sector, as confirmed by councilor Taranta, had long ago identified a list of interventions linked to the safety of the territory at hydrogeological risk for a total of 5 million euros. Among these interventions eligible for financing there was also that of San Giuliano for a specific amount of 950 thousand euros.
The technical and economic feasibility design was entrusted in 2023 but it is a single contract which directly involves the definitive and executive design to shorten the time.
Furthermore, all the geotechnical, geomechanical and geophysical investigations aimed at drafting the geological report have already been carried out.
In all of this the Municipality has already received the yes of the Superintendency.
This is very important prevention work with a significant budget. In addition to San Giuliano, the interventions concern other parts of the city. The territory of L’Aquila, in recent years, has been decimated by fires and other problems.
Work of this type will allow us to be able to look ahead with greater certainty. Councilor Fabrizio Taranta immediately committed himself to implementing prevention policies and not intervening only when problems become apparent. The sum is considerable and is making it possible to carry out interventions that otherwise would perhaps have gone more slowly.
