Salerno, Arcigay reports: «Homophobic attack in via Mercanti. Young man kicked and punched”

Homophobic attack in Salerno. Arcigay reported it. It happened in via Mercanti in the historic center of Salerno. Insults and then kicks and punches towards a young foreigner living in Baronissi. According to what the association reported in a note released today, the young man was physically attacked and insulted by his former employer, identified by the police as the owner of a restaurant in the area.

The victim, who remained anonymous in the Arcigay announcement, suffered physical and verbal attacks while he was alone. “I had just left a bar and was riding my bicycle when this person stood in front of me, she grabbed me by the hair and made me fall. She slapped and punched me – continues Samir – and then started insulting me with very vulgar phrases. I am shocked and scared,” the victim testified as reported by Arcigay.

Francesco Napoli, commissioner of Arcigay Salerno, personally contacted the victim to express solidarity and offer legal and psychological support. “I heard Samir – explained Napoli – and I found a scared and deeply shaken person. These episodes are part of that climate of violence and discrimination that is increasingly evident in our country. All this must be stopped.”

Naples asked for immediate intervention from the institutions and a firm stance against acts of violence and discrimination. “We need the LGBTQIA+ community and all the citizens of Salerno to wake up and start being indignant,” Napoli declared, adding that the association is considering the possibility of organizing a public demonstration of solidarity.

Arcigay Salerno also highlighted the lack of protection and aggregation for the LGBTQIA+ community, highlighting the need for adequate services.
