Geminiani is recognized as a leading performer on the Italian and international stages, and is considered one of the most highly regarded cellists of his generation.
On Thursday evening, together with the Foggia stable orchestra, he will perform a tribute to Franz Joseph Haydn, one of the greatest composers of the classical period.
On the program there are two late eighteenth-century works by the Austrian composer: the Symphony n.43 in E flat major “Mercury” Hob I:43 and the Concerto n. 2 in D major for cello and orchestra, Hob:VIIb:2. Both represent some of the highest moments of Haydn’s production and are excellent examples of his musical genius.
Throughout his career, Geminiani has played as a soloist with several prestigious orchestras, including the ORT, the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and I Pomeriggi Musicali, under the guidance of world-renowned conductors such as Myung-Whun -Chung, Sir Antonio Pappano, Christoph Poppen and Kent Nagano. He also gave the first Italian performance of the concerto for cello and orchestra by Heinz Karl Gruber under the guidance of the composer himself and, for the first time in the history of the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, the concerto by Friedrich Gulda under the direction by Kristjan Järvi.
On the podium there will be Massimo Belli, well-known violinist, director of the New Chamber Orchestra “Ferruccio Busoni” and violin professor at the Conservatory of Trieste.
The third season of the ICO “Suoni del Sud” Orchestra is organized in collaboration with the “Umberto Giordano” Theater and the Giordano Music Conservatory, with the contribution of the Ministry of Culture, the Puglia Region and the Municipality of Foggia.
