Five days after the arrival of Ryanair in the city, the Reggio accommodation facilities, especially the B&Bs, are smiling. The data from the first weekend are more than encouraging and lead to, albeit cautious, optimism.
Of course, the results will have to be read and evaluated in the long term, it is necessary to promote the tourist destination over time and constantly Reggio Calabria in other countries, but the first cycle of flights, mostly full, can only show the glass as half full.
“The first impression is decidedly positive. I’d say we started with a bang – he explains Steve Parisi of the association Reggio Bed- The city was full and so were the accommodation facilities. There was the concomitance of some local demonstrations with the arrival of Ryanair and this has favored movement in the city, we haven’t remembered the city being so lively and full of foreign tourists for a long time.”
What are the busiest areas in the city? And which commercial activities will benefit most from the presence of tourists in Reggio?
“The most attractive areas in the city for tourists are the central areas, therefore the Lungomare, Corso Garibaldi, the Archaeological Museum and the historic centre. Restaurants, ice cream parlors and shops are among the businesses that benefit most from it. The short stay, of two or three days, is perfect for those who want to visit Reggio Calabria”.
On the one hand the landscape, the natural beauty, the Riace Bronzes and the climate which make it unbeatable Reggio Calabria compared to other destinations. On the other, the sore points of the lacking services in the city. There is an adequate number of info points missing, there are no public bathrooms, there is currently no beach facilities and there is still a big question mark regarding the opening of the kiosks linked to the delay in the Municipality’s announcement. Then there is the eternal problem of waste in the city, the city today appears dirty, with numerous piles of waste in the streets.

The first data, in terms of presence of tourists in the city, despite the known critical issues of which Reggio he has been suffering for years, they are encouraging and one can only be optimistic.
“The accommodation facilities in the historic center were 100% full. It wasn’t easy to find a room last weekend and many visitors were looking for accommodation. Now the effect Ryanair it has calmed down a bit and we have a fair amount of availability. The weekends are the best times, the conditions are still very good. All our guests were happy with the welcome and beauty of the city but if you want to travel to… Pentedactyl or in the province to discover our villages, tourists have enormous difficulties in getting around.”

“There has been a diversification of bookings received. Not only nationally but also directly from the flight destinations Ryanair. We also welcomed numerous English tourists. We are very satisfied.”
