Ferrara (CISL FP Emilia Centrale) to young people: “Take the mountains”

May Day is always a time for reflection. A moment where the social and working achievements achieved throughout history find their expression, a moment where we stop to think about those people who fought and gave their lives for today’s rights.

As every year, the CGIL, CISL and UIL unions will take to the streets of the various municipalities to give workers a voice, make proposals and listen. A moment of great unity that must serve to consolidate objectives, hopes and seek solutions.

In Castelnovo ne’ Monti the appointment will be at 10 in Piazza Gramsci with the concert of the Felina musical band. At 10.30 am a procession through the city streets and at 11 am in Piazza Peretti the speeches of the spokespersons of the various unions.

Gennaro Ferrara

“We are in a compressed and complex moment – the words dand the deputy secretary of the CISL Fp Emilia Centrale Gennaro Ferrara – where there would be many topics to discuss. We will certainly talk about safety at work, women’s work, the birth rate, youth work and pensioners. These are all issues that have the same importance and that must be addressed by the Government to ensure that this beautiful Italy of ours can move forward.”

“Work – he states – must be safe and there should be no fear of not returning home. There are too many deaths at work and interventions are needed to try to limit them. “If women are not given subsidies to give birth to children, If you don’t support them in their journey and don’t understand their added value, unfortunately you won’t get very far. A woman must be supported and not forced to make choices. At the same time, men must also have the opportunity to be part of it of the family axis in a concrete way”.

“Families in this historical moment – continues Ferrara – have many needs and a family that has two or three children with two working parents must bend over backwards to be able to do everything. Just think of extracurricular activities and here the support of grandparents becomes very important. But if we don’t send them into retirement…”.

“These are all intertwined topics, complex topics that need to be addressed by the Government. As far as the mountains are concerned, I believe that the Apennines have great potential and that for it to emerge, young people need to get involved, even making mistakes, with new ideas, with the freshness that only a young person can have. Living in these areas I see that many young people move to Reggio Emilia or Modena or Parma to work but then always come back here because they are very attached to their origins. We should also encourage them to stay with a job, with a project that will make them stay here. A bit like in healthcare. Emilia-Romagna is the excellence of Italian healthcare with schools that train top doctors and nurses who however do not remain in the area. For what reason? Because they have more offers, they have more stimuli in other parts of the world. So what have we become? A training body? Or are we a reality to be strengthened? This too – concludes Ferrara – will be another topic to debate because we need to find stimuli to make the area attractive in order to establish a more functional healthcare system”.

Other initiatives in the mountains for May Day:

Succinct: On the initiative of the local community, Succiso’s May Day will begin at 10.30 am with the traditional procession in the center of the town accompanied by the band. The authorities of the municipalities of the ridge will be present with the banners and, as usual, the intervention of a trade unionist from the agriculture sector: this year it will be Mauro Nicolini, provincial secretary of Flai CGIL.
