ROSE GARDEN. Controversy over the closed central seafront, last weekend from 7pm onwards, on the occasion of the “Roseto Summer sound on tour” in Piazza Ponno on the north roundabout. According to expectations, the event, organized by a private individual with the support of the Municipality, should have attracted many young people, but on Sunday evening in particular there were very few attendances, in the face of a seafront closed to traffic, with many establishments forced to close two hours earlier than expected due to the lack of walking. Yet during the day, thanks to the good weather, for the conclusion of the “Spiagge d’Abruzzo cup” youth football tournament, the seafront was packed with people.
Mayor Mario Nugnes, during yesterday’s city council meeting, regarding the low participation in the event, highlighted that “the temperatures dropped significantly and for this reason many preferred not to go out on Sunday evening”. The most ferocious criticism came from the president’s “Roseto Incoming, tourist operators” association Giuseppe Olivieri. «Amateurs in disarray, there is no other way to define those responsible for what has happened in recent days on the seafront», he states, «the municipal administration has closed it to traffic to hold a musical event, organized in collaboration with a private individual , throwing traffic into chaos. An irresponsible decision, which blocked the traffic that poured onto state road 16 on a day of great influx of tourists and visitors.” The association also highlights the difficulties of the buses, forced to enter Roseto sud. «The administrators’ decision also prevented buses from being able to use the seafront to reach the hotel facilities», he continues, «many of which are located in the northern area of Roseto and even forced travelers to get off the vehicles and reach the tourist facilities on foot . But have the Rosetan administrators realized that the vehicles are forced to use the underpass located south of the city?”.
The response of the “Civic Space” group in support of the administration was very harsh, attacking Olivieri and the “Roseto Incoming” association, without however commenting on the inconveniences and the event. «It is important to underline that the Roseto Incoming association has certainly not shone for the activities implemented in the last two years», points out “Spazio civico”, «this inactivity was solely the result of the work of Olivieri and his spokesperson Antonio Norante, who without any evidence or foundation, instead of working in the common interest, preferred to continue to defame the municipal administration and, consequently, the entire city. Furthermore, with a touch of irony, we wonder if Olivieri is still conducting tourist activities, since, according to the checks carried out by our accounting manager, there is currently no income relating to the tourist tax for the year 2023 in the hotel Roses.”
