“We celebrate May Day by renewing our common commitment to beautiful, safe, clean and fair work. Our first dutiful thought is for the victims of fatal accidents and accidents at work. It is a devastating pain that sees heartbreaking episodes every day. Work is the basis of our democracy as enshrined in the Constitution whose values emerged precisely in Salerno when it was the capital of Italy during World War II”. Thus begins the message from Mayor Vincenzo Napoli on the eve of the festival.
“Work is not only the tool for satisfying primary existential needs but rather the way to enhance one’s talents and realize one’s ambitions. For this reason work must be a strong priority of our institutional activities. Without work it becomes practically impossible to affirm and guarantee all other human and civil rights – the warning of the tricolor band -. A daily commitment to a beautiful job that allows everyone to put their talent to good use so that the massacre of casualties and accidents is finally over interrupted. Clean work because it is done with respect for the environment.
For the mayor of Salerno “it is an arduous challenge especially in the current historical phase and in this global economic context. But we do not retreat from our task and our duties by multiplying initiatives aimed at generating economic opportunities and employment opportunities. I embrace you in this day of celebration, commitment and memory with gratitude all those who contribute to the progress of our community by working, I embrace those who after a life of work enjoy a well-deserved rest, I embrace those who are preparing or busy looking for work.
