GROSSETO. Via Mameli, in the station area, was once again at the center of attention this afternoon for an unspeakable episode, which fortunately ended without consequences.
It was just after 4pm when, taking advantage of a change of drivers, two people boarded an Autolinee Toscana shuttle bus, parked in front of the Fotonova shop. The attempt to take away the electric vehicle, which is used for the tour of the historic center, failed in the bud: instead of putting the first gear, they engaged the reverse gear and crashed into the bus of line 3 (the one that goes around Gorarella and arrives at the airport) who was behind, ready to leave.
The two individuals, known in the city for having always been involved in drugs and for positioning themselves in key locations in the historic center to beg, immediately ran away at the time of the collision. The driver of the rear-ended bus immediately started hunting for the two people, who however split up, one went into via Merano, the other continued along via Matteotti, and they disappeared.
The episode lasted less than a minute but it certainly left the service workers and those who witnessed the scene dumbfounded, which could have had much more serious consequences if the two criminals, a man and a woman, had managed to leave keep walking. In these vehicles, in fact, to put the first gear you have to move the lever backwards, while going in reverse starts the reverse gear. Autolinee Toscane immediately called the municipal police, who verified the absence of material damage, and who will view the surveillance cameras to identify the two people, who often use the blue bus for their trips around the city. “We know them well – some employees said – they often get on the bus, most of the time without a ticket and in evidently uncomfortable conditions.”
The transport company announced the complaint. The strong blow caused the owners and customers of the shops near the bus stop to leave, but the two vehicles did not suffer any visible damage, also because they were parked a short distance from each other. Among the hypotheses that were made immediately after the bad episode was that the two missing thieves were in those parts to stock up on drugs and were under the influence of prohibited substances at the time of the attempted theft.
What is certain is, as one of the inhabitants of the area pointed out, that violent episodes occurred in the station area in just a few days. “Here we no longer live peacefully and unfortunately the Army is not enough to solve everyday problems.”
