Salerno: an arrest for usury

The policemen of the Salerno Flying Squad and the Nocera Inferiore police station (Salerno) arrested a man for attempted aggravated extortion and aggravated usury.

The investigations made it possible to ascertain that the criminal had lent 250 thousand euros to an entrepreneur who had fallen into financial difficulty, imposing the repayment of the loan in installments of 18 thousand euros for a duration of 84 months, thus obtaining 1 million and 512 thousand euros in exchange.

The victim had had his request for rescheduling of the sums to be repaid rejected and had therefore run into difficulty and had become irregular in his payments.

This triggered a crescendo of serious threats aimed at him and his family, so much so that the arrested man almost physically attacked the entrepreneur’s daughter and also threatened to set fire to the company he owned.

It also emerged that the victim had resorted to the loan to meet the suffocating financial demands of another person to whom he had similarly turned previously.

During the search of the arrested man’s home, 65 thousand euros in cash and numerous precious objects were seized, hidden in a false bottom of a piece of furniture.
