Reggio Emilia Emilia Romagna, land of people who don’t give up, produce and get richer and richer, as reported by the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) by publishing the data of Italians’ portfolios, the numbers coming from the 2023 tax returns for the tax year 2022. There are not only in our region the super rich – from Piero Ferrari to the king of meat Luigi Cremoninifrom Bologna Isabella Seràgnoli to the family Maramotti of the Reggio Emilia Group Max Mara And Romano Minozzifounder of Modena Iris Ceramica Group – to contribute given that the territory, extended to the entire Po Valley, holds the greatest average wealth in Italy. Although there are also problems in our latitudes: Goro, Ferraraa stone’s throw from the Mesola forest, for example, is not celebrating given that with its average taxable income of 9,623 euros it is the “poorest” municipality in the region.

Emilia Romagna continues to be at the top of this special ranking, positioning itself this year in third place among the richest regions with 23,713 euros of per capita income (in ’21 she was always third, the year before second). The absolute premiere, again this year, is the Lombardy with 25,698 euros of average income while the Trentino Alto Adigewith 23,876 euros, precedes us by a handful of euros.

Places where rich people live? The small town of Albineaon the first hills of Reggio, is one of them the 19th richest municipality in Italy with 33,174 euros per capita. Perhaps precisely because it is the country of the Maramotti family, also majority shareholders of Credito Emiliano as well as of the famous fashion company. In fact, very wealthy people often live in small towns – think of Berlusconi in Arcore – and so their very high taxable income raises (distorting it) the average figure.

It is no coincidence that the province of Modena is the richest municipality Castelnuovo Rangone, right where the Cremonini Group and the many other pig-related companies are based. If Albinea and Castelnuovo (28,108 average taxable income) are very wealthy, however, the richest municipalities in Italy are very far from them: Portofino (Genoa, average income of 90,609 euros, just 301 taxpayers), probably because it is the town of Pier Silvio Berlusconi and Lajatico (Pisa, 52,955), a very small center where the singer Andrea Bocelli lives.

If in Italy the average income is equal to 21,752 euros – for a total taxable income of 970.2 billion euros, +6.3% compared to the previous year while the total personal income tax amounts to 174.2 billion euros, +1.9% – i.e. 1,007 euros more than in 2021 , we will always remain a country with two faces.

The top ten richest regions, in fact, are all in the north except Lazio which comes in fourth place overall, while the poorest are all in the south, with Calabria last where the income is just 16,108 euros. And then there is a cleaver that hits everyone, obviously with different consequences on the wallet: inflation which as we have known for years is very high.

If Italian incomes showed an increase of 4.85%, in fact, their progression was entirely “eaten” by inflation which in 2022 was equal to 8.1% (Istat source). But we remain “wealthy” all the same: according to a Bank of Italy report from last January, at the end of 2022 the net wealth of Italian families was equal to 10,421 billion euros, down by 1.7% compared to ’21 and after three years of growth.

The most significant average data, however, are those concerningor cities where there are more than 120 thousand taxpayers: from this point of view the highest taxable income in Italy is in Milan with 35,282 euros followed by Padua (27,935 euros) while Parma, in Emilia, ranks third overall with an average of 27,759 euros. Followed in fourth place by Bologna and then Modena which with 27,423 euros is the fifth city with the wealthiest citizens in Italy. Among the other provinces of Emilia Romagna Reggio Emilia is eleventh in the general ranking with 25,025 euros while Ferrara is further down with its 24,205 euros and the rest obtain good although less bright placings. © ALL RIGHTS RESERVED
