“I found myself without a nose”: the confession of the former Miss Italy
Descriptive text here

It’s been almost 20 years since he won the title Miss Italy in 2005 in the presence of one of the most famous actors in the world, Bruce Willis: it is from Turin Edelfa Chiara Masciotta, 40 years old, who obtained 64.2% of the votes, beating the Sicilian Anna Munafò in the final head-to-head. Interviewed by Corriere della Seratold the reasons why he left one of his greatest passions, acting, and above all the 2019 accident of which he still bears the marks today.

Son’s diabetes

At three years old, my first child became ill with type 1 diabetes – he says, explaining that research and technology certainly give a great helping hand in managing the disease – The right thing for me to do was to leave everything and stay behind him 100%. I’ve never had a second thought and I’m happy about it“. For this reason, Masciotta began to support Type 1 diabetes is not genetic, it is an immune-depressed pathology that occurs especially in pediatric age. I support the Agd Piemonte (Association for Young Diabetic Help) where funds are raised to help young sick patients and their families.”I found myself choosing and I chose. I turned my life around and also my artistic side. And I signed up for the IED“.

The five interventions

In her story, the European Institute of Design represents the starting point of the bad accident she had in 2019 on a rainy November evening when, leaving the Institute and finding herself walking on the pedestrian crossing of Corso Matteotti, in Turin, she was taken in full from a car. “It was very traumatic and I still carry the scars of it today – remember – I had to face it five operations, I found myself without nose. Full of scars on my face that kept producing cysts. But I don’t want to complain, I’m here and I’m talking about it“. Also related to the accident was deafness ear which is a direct consequence of that impact. “But I don’t feel like having another operation right now”, underlines the former Miss. A special memory goes to those he considers his guardian angels, the otolaryngologist Libero Tubino and the plastic surgeon Andrea Margara. “I wasn’t ready to have to live with those marks on my face all my life. The doctors were good. Even though many are still there. So we resort to some tricks, a longer fringe, a tuft…“.

Work and private life

Now, Elelfa Chiara Masciotta is an interior designer but her passions, especially in her youth, were numerous: with a degree in law, her mother signed her up for Miss Italia for fun and in those years she also loved the dance but she had to stop due to a bad Achilles tendon injury which still gives her problems today. Thanks to her, Miss Italia will also begin her years of acting with some courses at the Teatro Stabile but also between Rome and Milan amidst numerous trips for having won the band as the most beautiful in Italy. “The competition gave me great visibility but I would have liked to have more time to deepen my knowledge, instead I had to attend many institutional events. I would have liked to work hard to become a good one actress“.

Her partner is the former Torino footballer, Alessandro Rosina, with whom she had two children (Alessio and Aurora): today her main work is the design studio called Edera which she opened with Daniele Ratti, photographer and architect. To the final question if he is happy he replied “immensely.

When I find myself in front of my blank sheet of paper, all my creativity awakens“.
