ROVIGO – “The Garden of the Virgin Suicides”, il cult film by Sofia Coppola with Kathleen Turner, Kirsten Dunst and many other great actors, returns to the cinema in a new restored edition. The Duomo cinema theater arrives on Thursday 9 May, with a special evening, in the original language with Italian subtitles.

To celebrate it as it deserves, the Rovigo cinema launches a creative challenge: its first contest for illustrators, dedicated to the film, its atmospheres, and the beautiful music of Air.

There are two deadlines: those who already know the film can unleash their imagination and send a work inspired by the atmosphere of the film to [email protected] (use Wetransfer or Shared Drive) by May 6th. Those who have never seen it can easily remedy this: the Duomo cinema offers some free admissions to those who accept the challenge of proposing one of their works after viewing. Entries concern the evening of May 9th and the deadline to participate will be May 20th. Regardless of the deadline, the film is full of ideas from which to be inspired: the iconic characters of the Lisbon sisters, the beautiful and very young Kirsten Dunst (also taken from the new poster of the film), the enveloping 70s atmosphere, the legendary music electronic.

The works sent by May 6th will be exhibited at the cinema on the evening of the film screening and in the following days. All contest participants will have free entry to the screening on May 9th. The works sent subsequently, together with the others, will then be exhibited until the end of the month in Spazio T, the space adjacent to the Duomo cinema, accessible both from vicolo Duomo and via Badaloni.

“The Virgin Suicides” returns to the big screen on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Sofia Coppola’s directorial debut, in a version restored thanks to the Cineteca di Bologna. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Jeffrey Eugenides and the restoration was carried out under the supervision of director of photography Ed Lachman and with the approval of the director herself. In addition to an exceptional cast (James Woods, Kathleen Turner, Danny De Vito, and the very young Josh Hartnett and Kirsten Dunst) the film is also famous for the soundtrack by AIR, a French duo, who among other things are recently bringing back tour his most famous album (Moon Safari) and who described the film’s soundtrack as “the dark side of the Moon Safari”. As on other occasions, it will return to the Duomo in the original version with Italian subtitles, a formula particularly appreciated not only by the most avid cinephiles, but also by younger audiences.
