Sect iron plates that make up the champion’s face, a look from which all of Ayrton Senna’s humanity shines through. The large mural panel was inaugurated on Saturday afternoon Saudade: Senna’s facecreated by the artist Stefano Pierotti, author of the monument positioned at the Mineral Waters, who donated it to the city of Imola.
The work takes a photo taken by Ercole Colombo (Ercole Colombo/Motorsport Images/Getty Images) at sunset during the tests in April 1994, at the Imola racetrack. That is, a few days before the tragic accident at the Tamburello which interrupted the story and started the legend.
The panel, 3.33 meters by 4.20, was mounted on the wall of the Acer building in via Cenni 10, mounted by the Tecnopose company which installed the work free of charge.
The sculptor Stefano Pierotti, present at the inauguration yesterday, donated the wall panel to the City of Imola, expressing the desire «that the work be installed in a popular context, thus respecting the same values expressed by Senna”.
«As he said in an interview: …”the rich cannot live on an island surrounded by an ocean of poverty. We need to give everyone a chance” – adds Stefano Pierotti -. And from there the Senna Foundation was born, carried out first by her sister and now by her niece. Here, I hope that the people who will pass under this mural of mine, the children who will leave the school, which is located nearby, will be able to receive an emotion from this image and will go in search of who Senna was, not only for the noisy world of engines, but which managed to discover his humanity, as I have already tried to express through the statue placed at the Tamburello”.
