After the victory in 2022 and the fourth place in 2023, at the national finals of Italian Promotional Sitting Volley Rotary Cup Championship 2024 played in Cesena on 20 and 21 April, the team of PianoterRA Pietro Pezzi Ravenna conquers third place and confirms itself among the best teams in Italy in sitting volleyball played in mixed formation (at least two women on the court).
An event that had record numbers: 23 clubs from all over Italy, 6 fields, over 450 participants.
Undefeated in the qualifying groups, the team from Ravenna reaches the Gold finals and, on the first day of competition, wins the match against Pordenone on a tie-break (25-14/23-25/15-12), demonstrating compactness and determination and allowing only the second set to the opponents. Advancing in the draw, PianoterRa then finds itself facing the reigning champions of the highly rated Nola Città dei Gigli. After a first set to forget (25-10 for Nola), the Ravenna team regain their balance and in the second set they take to the field with the awareness of being able to display a game worthy of a semi-final of that caliber. And it is precisely here that PianoterRA was able to surprise and excite the audience present by showing determination, enthusiasm and great team spirit. However, the support of those present was not enough, at 24-21 some too much naivety and referee uncertainty decreed Nola’s victory 26-24.
On Sunday, the day of the finals, PianoterRA is determined to conquer the podium in the clash with Lazio Sitting Volley from which it leaves no escape, closing the match 2-0 (25-9/25-17). The Ravenna team thus achieved a well-deserved third place and left the tournament with just one defeat against Nola Città dei Gigli who, in the final against the Fermana Volleyball School, confirmed the Italian title for this year too after the victory last season.
