2023 was a rosy year for employment in Italy. This is stated by the data processed by the CGIA of Mestre. In fact, the number of employed people reached 23.6 million, 471 thousand more than in the pre-covid period. Bad news however for Umbria which, overall, achieved an increase of 0.9 percent, well below the national average which stands at around 2 percent.
Umbria The province of Terni brings down the green heart of Italy. In the five-year period examined (2019-2023), only 13 provinces of the Belpaese performed worse than Conca, such as Taranto, Macerata, L’Aquila, Syracuse, Sassari and Fermo, bringing up the rear in the ranking drawn up by the CGIA of Mestre. Employment in the Steel City fell by 2.5 percent compared to the pre-covid period. It is also true, however, that between 2022 and 2023, there would seem to be a small improvement: the percentage change in fact marks a +0.5 percent. Perugia, on the other hand, is in line with the happy numbers of many other Italian provinces. In fact, the trend marks a +2 percent compared to 2019. In absolute numbers, the number goes from 273 thousand to over 278 thousand employed.
Employment in Italy In general, in recent years, the employment level in Italy has grown especially in the South where the most significant increases have been recorded. Compared to 2019, Puglia recorded +6.3 percent (+77 thousand units), followed by excellent results also for Liguria and Sicily both with +5.2 percent and also Campania with +3.6 percent and Basilicata with +3.5 percent. In short, «it is a particularly positive moment for our labor market. Both for the historical record of employed people and for the increase in the number of those who have a permanent employment contract – write from the CGIA – and, finally, also for the increase, especially in the last year, of the staff with high levels of qualification”.
