Separate classes for disabled people, Santangelo: “Vannacci’s statements are unacceptable”

L’AQUILA – “I consider General Roberto Vannacci’s statements regarding the separation of classes for girls and boys with disabilities unacceptable”.

This was declared by the Abruzzo regional councilor for Education, Social Policies, Research and University, Roberto Santangelo (Forza Italia)

“Differentiated classes for children with problems means ghettoizing them from the beginning of their school career. Social and cultural inclusiveness is an essential value.”

“I believe that the co-presence of people with disabilities and people defined as normal in classes is important, and we must agree on the term normal, because each can help the other in the process of training and growth for a balanced and richer society. These statements give strength to prejudices that die hard.”

“In Abruzzo we are working to ensure that children with problems are immediately included in school and social activities, because we strongly believe in collective social growth. Divisions have never led to a cohesive society, it is a question of cultural vision of life.”

“I find it absurd that a centre-right, like the one to which I feel I belong and which promotes epochal battles such as ‘the life project’ with Minister Locatelli, and which is preparing to launch the single disability portal, can give political citizenship to similar positions”.

“Separate classes for disabled people”, Manuela Tursini responds to Vannacci: “Dangerous statements”

L’AQUILA – “These ideas do not in any way represent the values that should guide our society and are, moreover, offensive to thousands of families”. Councilor Manuela Tursini responds to Vannacci’s statements.

“I join the concern and condemnation expressed by the Regional Councilor for Social Policies, Research and University, Roberto Santangelo, regarding General Vannacci’s declarations on the proposal to differentiate classes for disabled students” declares the Councilor for Social Policies of Municipality of L’Aquila Manuela Tursini. “It is essential to encourage coexistence between disabled and non-disabled students, effectively promoting a balanced, diversified and non-divisive society” continues Tursini.

“These ideas do not in any way represent the values that should guide our society and are, moreover, offensive to thousands of families” concludes the Councilor.
