The Constituent Assembly for Sassari has officially announced the break with Giuseppe Mascia’s Campo Largo, declaring Mariano Brianda as their mayoral candidate for the next municipal elections. This decision marks the end of a possible agreement with Campo Largo, which according to the Constituent Assembly, has shown an “absolute denial of any even minimal change”. The Constituent Assembly, a group of citizens that coalesced around the former magistrate and center-left candidate Mariano Brianda, explored the possibility of an agreement with Mascia.

However, after encountering strong resistance to any form of change from Mascia and his group, they decided to continue with their independent candidacy. The note released by the Constituent Assembly for Sassari clearly expresses frustration with Mascia’s adamant attitude and the risk that this could indirectly benefit right-wing forces. “We have unfortunately found ourselves faced with a barrage of unshakable vetoes,” the statement said, underlining the need for a new direction that includes and considers all stakeholders.

The statement calls on all the people of Sassari to support Brianda, highlighting the need for a serious and inclusive discussion that involves not only the political forces but also the social and commercial fabric of the city. The Constituent Assembly for Sassari is committed to working for a future in which the word “public” is truly synonymous with inclusion and accessibility for all citizens and businesses. Brianda’s candidacy therefore represents a clear invitation to change and the active participation of the citizens of Sassari, to bring the city back to a leadership and reference role in the regional and national context.
