Pedestrian crossings, Grosseto in the center: “Petition snubbed”

Grosseto. “The petition promoted by Grosseto at the center and environmentalist Forum and supported by the signatures of 550 Grosseto residents, more than 5 times the necessary quorum, had asked the mayor of Grosseto to create safe pedestrian crossings on Via Castiglionese and interventions that would slow down vehicles in proximity of the Marepark shopping center” (here is the text of the petition).

This was stated in a statement by the Grosseto association at the center.

“Many signatories are residents of the neighborhood, others live elsewhere in the city. Everyone, some daily and some occasionally, continues to risk their own safety to cross a busy road, via Castiglionese, where not even simple pedestrian crossings have been created near the shopping center – continues the note -. Among the solutions we had hypothesized, a first raised pedestrian crossing, which would reduce the speed of vehicles entering the city from via Castiglionese, to be built near the intersection with via Quarzo, Edilcommercio and the Barbini nursery, also by virtue of the sports facility multipurpose facility under construction in that area. Then, a second protected crossing to be located at the level of the car park overlooking the numerous homes and the Martin Pescatore residence, at the beginning of the Marepark shopping center area. The first crossing currently available for those families who live in front of the shops is in fact about 170 meters from the first entrance to the shopping centre.”

“Grosseto in the center has over time promoted the petitions which, with 1,200 signatures, have led to the safety, through life-saving pedestrian islands which eliminate risky overtaking, of the pedestrian crossings along Via Giusti, Via Monte Labro and Via della Pace, at the height of the Sacred Heart, and with a further 500 signatures also from the crossing of via Senese at the Curiel Village – goes on the statement -. Again following the activity of collecting and relaunching citizens’ reports and interlocution with the municipal administration by Grosseto in the centre, raised pedestrian crossings have more recently been created, which reduce speeds by around 30%, to Braccagni (old Aurelia), in Roselle (crossroads via Rosellana and via Batignanese) and in Stiacciole (Scansanese), as well as the bumps in some residential streets of Rispescia”.

“For Via Castiglionese, let’s not give up: on April 26th, Grosseto in the center presented a formal request for access to the documents to the municipal administration to receive, within 30 days – ends the note -, the answer that was missing from the 550 citizens of Grosseto who since June 2023 have been asking for safety for pedestrians crossing that road”.
