Piero Fassino was reported by the employees of the duty free of Fiumicino airport for attempting to take away a bottle of perfume without paying. On April 15, the former minister and deputy of the Democratic Party apparently put a pack of Chance by Chanel in his pocket before walking away and being stopped by the vigilantes. A misunderstanding, explained the politician through his lawyer. But the security and shopping area workers at the Roman airport tell a completely different story. According to their version, mid-April was the third similar episode, which is why the dem deputy was under surveillance. And for this reason the management of the duty free filed a complaint despite the immediate apology and the offer to buy two packs of perfume to affirm his good faith. Other elements emerge in the complaint filed against the former mayor of Turin and are now being examined by investigators. Fassino would have attempted to steal, on the three occasions, always female perfumes. Regarding the April 15 episode, he claims to have taken the perfume as a gift for his wife, even though that day he was headed to Strasbourg for a meeting with some European parliamentarians. The officers are therefore also listening to the employees who were on duty during the other episodes, to get some more information. According to witnesses, when the security men stopped him he first provided his own explanations, then an argument arose which culminated in a sentence that further irritated the management, the more classic “you don’t know who I am”. To verify what the airport staff reports, investigators will now have to view the videos in the hope that the recordings of interest have not been overwritten.
