Stomatherapist, new roles for nurses

With resolution (number 82) of 22 April, the Local Health Authority established the company Stomacare Team dedicated to the advanced management of
patients with digestive stomas; specifically, the professional figure of the stoma therapist, for the entire provincial territory: specialized nurses who will work in hospitals and clinics (health workers already employed by the Pontine healthcare company, who have obtained the specific Master’s degree). A figure, that of the stoma therapist, which is added to the already existing ones of the Picc Team (venous access management) and Procurement (specialised in organ donations). All prominent figures in the field of nursing. An important step welcomed with satisfaction by the CISL Fp Latina union.

«This represents a further step forward for the development of advanced nurse skills – we read in the union note – As a trade union organisation, we believe that in the healthcare sector, any innovation that aims to improve the quality of care and development professional deserves to be celebrated. The decision to introduce this professional figure demonstrates a far-sighted vision on the part of the ASL Management, recognizing the importance of providing patients with targeted and personalized assistance. Furthermore, it highlights a tangible commitment to improving the skills of nursing staff, investing in human resources to guarantee an increasingly effective, quality and cutting-edge service. It is encouraging to see that the Local Health Authority of Latina is aligned with the evolution of roles and skills in the healthcare sector. The creation of the stoma therapist not only satisfies the needs of patients, but also those of nurses eager to expand their knowledge and professional skills and areas of professional autonomy.”

At the same time, the CISL FP underlines how it is equally important to conclude the process of transposing the tasks as per the CCNL and existing trade union agreements. «It is important to underline that the path towards the complete implementation of the new system of organizational tasks (formerly Coordinations and Organizational Positions) is still blocked: we are aware that at times there may be bureaucratic obstacles that can slow down this process, but months later and after the continuous renewals of the old positions, it is now necessary to start the new organizational system with the transposition and launch of the competitions for the new organizational positions. It is essential that the Management of the Local Health Authority of Latina completes this important transition and gives a strong signal regarding the organizational structure of the Health Professions. We also reiterate, so that the new system of assignments can truly bring tangible benefits to both patients and healthcare workers, it is essential that it is accompanied by an adequate investment in professionalism and in the recognition of assignments with the use of the new contractual funds defined in the regional. In conclusion, we want to underline the importance of the work carried out so far by the Local Health Authority, convinced that it will continue on this path, with a constant commitment to the implementation of the new system of tasks and a tangible investment in the professionalism of healthcare personnel, overcoming the obstacle to unlock the path for the transposition of tasks. Only in this way will a better future for the health and well-being of our community be guaranteed.”
