LIVORNO. They would have carried out eight thefts in just three months. On cars, in sports facilities and even – according to the prosecution – at the ITI Galilei. This is why the police arrested the thirty-eight-year-old Tunisian Mehdi Ben Zidi and the fifty-one year old from Livorno Alessandra Porcu. The couple, who live in the Via Garibaldi area, were accompanied to prison, he to Sughere – where in reality he was already detained for other crimes – and she to “Don Bosco” in Pisa. The investigations by the Carabinieri, which began in mid-February, «made it possible to reconstruct in detail the criminal dynamics of the suspects, managing to gather serious evidence of guilt against them which led to the issuing of the custody order for both of them. precautionary in prison”.

The shots

The investigations began on 17 February, «when the two suspects – explain the provincial command of the Carabinieri – were noticed in a suspicious attitude by a caretaker of a sports facility who, seeing them stealthily wandering around the structure, followed them and managed to immortalize them while they were breaking the window of a Fiat Panda parked outside to take a bag. Having seen the scene, the employee alerted the victim, who made a report the following day. On March 18, the same couple was seen near the “Villa Corridi” primary school, intent on breaking the window of a parked BMW and stealing a school backpack.” In this case a witness took a photo of them, giving it to the investigators, who recognized them. «The immediate and in-depth investigations – summarize the investigators, coordinated by prosecutor Alessandra Fera – made it possible to ascertain that the two, after committing the theft, had left on a stolen scooter two days earlier. The following day, March 19, another robbery was discovered: both were noticed by one of the victims as they fled after breaking the glass of her car, stealing a bag.”

The raid on the school

On March 27, the attack on the Iti Galilei occurred, with the couple filmed by cameras «while, after having entered inside – the military wrote – they were intent on stealing ten laptops. The following April 4, the two were noticed by a policeman off duty, while they were walking away from a car. As the soldier approached, he realized that the two had forced the rear window and immediately took action to contact the owner who, having arrived on site, confirmed the theft of some bags and clothing. Also on the same day, the two entered the car park of a company, where they stole an electric scooter.” Furthermore, on the morning of April 11, «the couple entered the changing rooms of a shop where, by breaking into some lockers, they managed to take possession of the bags of two women. At the time, one of the two, reporting everything, reported not only that the bag had been stolen, but also that she had suffered a shortage of money with the illicit use of the ATM card contained in the bag with which the two had made some purchases”. From the investigations of the Carabinieri “it was then ascertained – the military continues – that these purchases were also the work of the two suspects, facilitated by the fact that the banking circuit does not usually require the use of the PIN to make purchases of modest amounts”

Theft of a moped

The investigations also revealed that Ben Zidi, alone, «would have committed crimes against property and in particular, on 16 March, he was recognized through the analysis of video surveillance recordings as the author of the theft of a moped inside a garage”. On March 19, however, he was reported for improper use of payment instruments, “since he used a prepaid card not in his name to make purchases”. The woman, after the first arrest of her partner, “on 6 April she entered alone into a sports facility where she took the keys to a car placed in a changing room”.

Drug

When Porcu was arrested the police found her with a gram of crack and marijuana, as well as a knife and a glass breaker (usually supplied with safety equipment on buses) for which she was reported for the crimes of illegal possession of weapons or objects capable of offending and unjustified possession of altered keys or lock picks, as well as being reported to the prefecture for personal consumption of drugs.l
