Corten iron sheets one millimeter thick, cut and welded onto metal mesh. And then painted. The mural panel created by Stefano Pierotti inaugurated yesterday afternoon in the Marconi district is entitled ‘Saudade: the face of Senna’. The work, mounted on the wall of an Acer building, at number 10 of via Cenni, was donated by the Tuscan artist to the city with the desire that it be installed “in a popular context, thus respecting the same values expressed by Senna”.

In that area, there are already murals on the facades of adjacent buildings. Pierotti’s wall panel (over three meters wide by four meters high, with a thickness of approximately four centimetres) was specially created by the Tuscan artist to mark the 30th anniversary of Senna’s death.

A bond of memory that starting from that dramatic 1st of May, winds up to the creation of the monument (again by Pierotti) inaugurated on 26 April 1997 in the Acque Minerali park and updated with the artistic intervention in the Marconi district.

“A unicum that highlights the human side of Ayrton”, in the words of mayor Marco Panieri, present at yesterday’s inauguration. “A common thread that links this place to the Autodrome – adds Pierotti – in the memory of a unique champion”.

The work comes to completion of a series already called ‘Iron pictures’ by the author himself, developed around 2017, in which the faces of figures such as Frida Kahlo, David Bowie, Barack Obama, Marilyn Monroe and others stand out.

Meanwhile, at the Salannunziata, the exhibition dedicated to Pierotti himself and curated by Vinicio Dall’Ara continues. The exhibition itinerary will remain open, with free entry, until Sunday 19 May on the following days and times: Friday 4-7pm; Saturday, Sunday and holidays 10am-1pm and 4pm-7pm.
