The next Tari will have an average increase, in the Arezzo municipalities, of 5.2%. This is what emerges after the assembly of the Southern Tuscany Waste Authority which was held last Friday and in which the mayors or delegated councilors took part. The increase, which has become more impactful since the year in which the Arera national calculation method was applied, seems to be in particular due to the increase in the cost of the systems which affects the fixed part of the tariff, while the variable part is established on the basis to the optional services that individual municipalities request from Sei Toscana. For Capolona we are talking about an increase of approximately 4.9%, for Lucignano of 6% just to give a few examples. These are also two municipalities that voted against the approval of the economic and financial plan together with, among others, Castiglion Fiorentino, Sansepolcro and Pieve Santo Stefano.

“It is clear that this calculation of the Arera method – comments the councilor Daniele Pasqui of the municipality of Capolona – puts the municipalities in difficulty which, despite the efforts to reorganize the separate waste collection service to increase it, see the costs of the manager and the plants increase to the detriment of citizens.”

The increase in the Municipality of Arezzo

Now the fees will have to be brought to the individual municipal councils for approval, as the Arezzo parliament has already done. The 2024 cost for the Municipality of Arezzo is equal to 21,597,000 euros, equal to an increase of 4.9% compared to last year. “This average increase is reproduced in a substantially homogeneous manner on both domestic and non-domestic users. The effects will be visible in the calls for payment of the balance to be paid by 2 December. Those in the delivery phase, expiring on 30 April, instead refer to the 2024 advance calculated on the 2023 tariffs” the council announced.

All other Arezzo municipalities

There is only one municipality that sees the Tari decrease, it is that of Monterchi which has a minus 4.8% in the amount it will have to pay to Sei Toscana. For residents in all the other municipalities in the province of Arezzo that are part of the Southern Tuscany Waste Authority, there are increases in sight. They range from 0.3% for Montemignaio, up to an increase of 7.5% for Subbiano. In the middle are Bibbiena with +5.8%, Bucine with +6%, Castiglion Fibocchi with another 6.4% more. Above average increase also for Sansepolcro with 5.9% more and for Castelfranco Piandiscò with +5.6%. Data that emerge thanks to the table below which compares the fee paid by the municipalities to Sei Toscana in 2023 and that established for 2024. The difference determines how much the cost for citizens will increase.

Amendments presented at the meeting

During the meeting, some requests for amendments and resolutions were presented. The Municipality of Capolona has asked the president of the Ato assembly, Alessandro Ghinelli, to ask the Tuscany Region to return to disbursing the contributions foreseen for administrations that have a separate waste collection above 70%.

Instead, the resolution came from the Isola del Giglio to ask for a review of the Arera method, which has always been highly contested because it prevents real control of the increase in tariffs. The resolution was voted favorably by almost all the municipalities led by the centre-right including Grosseto and Siena, but then there was no majority because Arezzo abstained and the resolution lapsed, causing a certain discontent.
