Everyone disagrees in their own way. The explosion of Roberto Vannacci’s candidacy as an independent on the League’s European lists has sparked loud shouts among Venetian Northern League members. Like Roberto Marcato’s scream: «I won’t even vote for him dead!». The “other” Roberto, Ciambetti, president of the Regional Council, has another style, the antipodes: he speaks in a low voice but certain dry answers contain just as much TNT.
Ciambetti, no European Championships for you in the end?
“I gave my availability but nothing came of it.”

“The federal council will have made other choices.”

«For goodness sake, I also read his book and I also found myself in some common sense reasoning, such as the one on woke culture. Now a song like that of The Kolors, “a boy kisses a girl” seems revolutionary…».

“Absolutely not. I personally know many party colleagues who are re-nominated or running, I will vote for them. And I will campaign for them.”
Are you betting on Paolo Borchia? Rosanna Conte? Alessandro Manera?
«For now I won’t name names, it will be clear from the dinners I want to organize. And in any case they are all well-trained colleagues who would do well in Brussels.”
At these dinners we will also talk about Autonomy, have you heard what General Vannacci thinks about it. To say the least, it’s lukewarm…
«He knows little about the League».
Yet he was nominated as the top seed to increase the League’s results…Will it go like this?
«It is an independent candidacy with respect to our movement, it is not usual for our lists and I imagine that the federal council will have evaluated it well».
Will it bring more votes than it risks losing?
“I don’t have any polls to judge on, I imagine that those in charge commissioned them and I hope they are well done polls.”
Are there those who believe that Vannacci is using the party as a bus?
«I understand that the general was sought, not that he proposed himself. Of course, the candidacy as a bus has already happened in other parties, I hope it doesn’t happen to us. I hope, I repeat, that this aspect has been well evaluated by the federal council.”
April 25th has just passed and we can’t help but ask you too: do you declare yourself anti-fascist?
«I find it redundant to ask since we swear on the Constitution. The theme of self-declaration on being anti-fascist is an argument that opposing fans use to have a certificate of existence in life. Fascism no longer exists, I feel anti-fascist as a warning not to repeat the mistakes of the past. That said, the fact that the April 25th holiday is increasingly characterized by so much intolerance is not good for April 25th.”
Let’s go back to the League which in Veneto seems to have regrouped against FdI first, then against Tosi’s blue attacks and, now, against Vannacci. Is that so? You sit on the board and the secretary Alberto Stefani recently spoke of the party as a rediscovered community…
«Let’s say that there is still a lot of work to be done and there is important room for improvement».
Do you expect a change of leadership after the European Championships?
«I hope that the League rediscovers the autonomist and federalist spirit and that it gives perspective to the militants. Here we have a movement animated by a ruling class, but I would say, even before that, by first-rate people.”
It seems to be the basis of territorial identity that the League is experimenting with to defend itself from the siege of the allies at the next Regionals…
«We will not give up an inch on the presidency in a region that was the cradle of the Northern League. We have cartridges to fire. And of quality.”
Should we include her among the post-Zaia aspirants?
“I? I’m a good wingman.”
