the A1 in Tuscany is a nightmare (and we will have to wait until at least 2027)

Sixty years ago, with the inauguration of the last section in 1964, it was a revolution: Milan, Bologna, Florence and Rome connected to each other in a few hours thanks to one of the symbols of the boom, the Highway of the Sun.

Now, the situation, at least on the Tuscan stretch, is much less rosy: long queues between Florence and Barberino, where work is underway on the complete renovation of the stretch, queues and traffic at walking pace, especially during the public holidays, south of Florence .

And it doesn’t end here, because even if the sources of the Autostrade per l’Italia company interviewed say that in no other region have massive investments been made as in Tuscanymore years of suffering await us.

In the stretch north of Florenceit is explained, the agreement has just been signed with the Ministry of Transport for a gigantic transformation: the old route will be entirely transformed into a north lane four lanes, while the new route will be reserved for southbound traffic. End of construction in another two or three years.

In 2027 the works on the third lane between southern Florence and Incisa and work will be done on the stretch already designed from Incisa to Valdarno. From there to Arezzo and Chiusi, Autostrade always confirms, there aren’t even any plans yet.
