Civitavecchia – Celebrations for Santa Fermina


The celebrations of the patron saint of Civitavecchia will take place today. Every year the Santa Fermina event is particularly felt in the city, so much so that there will be around 10 thousand visitors, including faithful and tourists. The program of the day includes the mass at 8.30 am in the chapel of Santa Fermina at Forte Michelangelo celebrated by Bishop Gianrico Ruzza.

At 10.15am the mayors of Civitavecchia and Amelia will meet in the cathedral square to renew the twinning of the two cities united by the common patron. Preceded by the historical procession, with flag-wavers and the offering of the votive candle in the churchyard of the Cathedral. From a traffic point of view, there are various restrictions imposed by the local police.

In the afternoon, at 4.15 pm, there will be a gathering of participants in the procession which will begin at 5 pm with community prayer led by Bishop Ruzza. After the city tour, the statue with the relics of the Saint will be taken into the sea for blessing and the offering of a crown to the seafarers who died at work. When the procession returns there will be mass in the Cathedral.
