The appointment with history. As it had never happened in the past, and as it is unlikely to happen in the future. What will happen to Fasano in the province of Toastsfrom next 13 to 15 June, will be a perhaps unrepeatable event, whose already broad international scope has taken on even greater value after the announcement of the presence of the Holy Father at the work of the G7. Here the 7 “big ones” of the world will have the opportunity to meet with Pope Francis: in a province that has always been at the center of the international “reception” system, and also a fundamental hub for economic traffic in the Mediterranean Sea, the event scheduled between just over a month will be an indelible mark on the history of this territory between Alto Salento and Valle D’Itria. It will thus be a G7 of many “first times”: from the presence of a Pontiff in thematic summits with world leaders (the session where the Pope’s speech is expected in presence will be on artificial intelligence), to a female president of the Council in Italy, the country hosting the work of the world meeting. An event of this magnitude means a security plan, also in this case, worthy of the world personalities who will arrive at the same time, in the province of Brindisi in a few weeks. Attention to every little detail; a constant confrontation with the authorities, including local ones, but above all with the international security services, starting with the American ones due to the presence of US President Joe Biden in the G7 in Fasano. Priority aspects which will have to be further calibrated for a few hours after the announcement of Pope Francis’ presence in Puglia. At the moment the date of his arrival in one of the appointments between 13 and 15 June has not yet been communicated.

Plan

In the next few hours there will be further meetings to also outline the arrival of the Holy Father in the province of Brindisi. An arrival that will also have sentimental value. Because among those who have been busy for weeks preparing the security plan for the world summit there will also be Luigi Carnevale, the new prefect of Brindisi, who for four years until 2022 was director of the Vatican public security inspectorate, coordinating the security of Pope Francis. His “guardian angel” who in just over a month, albeit for a few hours, will return to be at his side. Carnevale does not hide his excitement for what will happen in a few weeks. Emotion that combines with his authority and professionalism, qualities recognized far beyond national borders. «For me it will be an emotion and a pride to welcome and greet the Pontiff together with the “greats” of the Earth». A few words from Carnival, who has been busy for weeks now planning every aspect of what will be the security framework to be guaranteed to the authorities and delegations of the G7 countries but also of the other states invited to participate in part of the summit’s work. He provides security throughout the period of stay in the province of Brindisi, which will not only be within Borgo Egnazia, but for example will see the Castello Svevo of Brindisi host the first official dinner of the G7 on 13 June. Hence the needs linked to the travel of the Heads of State, who will meet in the manor overlooking the internal port of the Adriatic capital, home to the activities of the Navy, and positively evaluated at the end of a series of inspections also by officials of the international security, starting with that of the USA. At the top of this plan, alongside the Carnival prefect, are also two profiles with a long and important wealth of experience both in anti-terrorism and in the organization of large events: the police commissioner of Brindisi Giampietro Lionetti and his deputy Emanuele Ferraro. The presence of the highest authorities of Italy, the United States, Canada, France, the United Kingdom, Germany and Japan will impose a control profile that has never been prepared in this territory and which also includes the massive strengthening of police personnel, with reinforcements on every front, also with the presence of international special agents and world secret services. At least 5 thousand units are expected in a control activity which will also involve infrastructures such as ports and airports between the provinces of Brindisi, Bari and Taranto.
