Late in the evening of yesterday 26 April, a patrol crew stopped a person with a bleeding mouth during checks in the Oltretorrente area.
The same man, a 48-year-old Moroccan, told the operators that he had been hit in the face by a person who was a few meters away, sitting under the arcades of the street.
The perpetrator of the attack suddenly stood up at the sight of the police and approached both the police and the victim in a threatening manner.
The attacker, in an attempt to evade control, went into a rage, claiming not to be in possession of documents and trying to get away.
At this point the operators intervened to stop him and identify him, but by kicking and elbowing he tried to escape, furthermore after having hit the policemen with kicks and punches, he continued to struggle, throwing a headbutt on the road with the intent to self-harm.
The policemen, with great difficulty, managed to contain him and place him in the service car to take him to the police station.
The subject’s violent behavior also continued inside the police station, where he again tried to attack the police. Following his injuries, he was then treated by 118 personnel who arrived at the police station and taken to the emergency room.
Once discharged and returned to the police station, he was photographed and identified as a 37-year-old Moroccan citizen, illegal on the national territory as he was burdened by the refusal of the renewal of his residence permit, with numerous police records for personal injuries, carrying weapons and objects suitable for offending, brawling, drug dealing, and sexual violence.
Given the seriousness of the facts, the man was arrested for the crime of threatening resistance to a public official and causing injury.
Once the ritual tasks were completed, the arrested person was taken to the security room of the Police Headquarters to await the direct judgement. During the validation hearing held this morning, the Judge validated the arrest and ordered the man to be placed in precautionary custody in prison.
