The declaration of the first citizen was made at the end of the show ‘Princesa’, a work that tells the story of Fernanda Farias de Albuquerque, a Brazilian trans woman with a suffered past. The mayor Maria Aida Episcopo, on stage, officially asked Luxuria, also on behalf of her team in government of the city, if she wanted to lead the events of the prestigious theater. Luxuria, visibly excited, accepted. This is, obviously, the start of a path that will be defined in detail and communicated in the coming weeks.

At the end of the performance, the mayor joined the actress on stage, together with a delegation from the council and the president of the city council Lia Azzarone, and asked her willingness to accept the role of artistic director of the Giordano for the next season .

“We are here this evening to greet, pay homage and above all thank one of the dearest daughters of our city.

For the love she has always shown, despite the wounds of childhood and adolescence, for the commitment she has always made in battles alongside people discriminated against, bullied and victims of violence and hateful prejudices, for the courage she has always shown in taking sides and going in a stubborn and contrary direction to current thinking.

Thank you Vlady for the person you have become, for your tortuous but exhilarating path that never led you to forget where it all began, your being part of our community. Over the years we have gotten to know many aspects of you, of your personality and your talent: as an activist, parliamentarian, writer, artistic director, television personality, presenter. This evening we will admire an actress capable of describing a world that is too often in the shadows, of conveying intense emotions and nuances, of making people cry, smile and reflect. And through you that world will finally be ours too, in a city, your city, which no longer wants to exclude anyone or anything. Thank you Vlady,” Episcopo said.

WHO IS VLADIMIR LUXURIA?
Born in Foggia 58 years ago, Vladimir Luxuria is a former parliamentarian and LGBTQIA+ activist, writer, actress and television personality. She brought the show ‘Princesa’ to her city for the first time, which tells the true story of Fernanda Farias de Albuquerque. Currently, she Luxuria hosts the Island of the Famous, a program that she won and of which she was sent.

A DEEP BOND WITH THE CITY
Luxuria has a deep connection with the city of Foggia. Maria Aida Episcopo’s electoral campaign opened with a conversation on the future of the city in Piazza Giordano, last September 10, in a preview of the Festa de l’Unità organized by the Democratic Party club, together with the Young Democrats and the Democratic Women . “I want to give my contribution, however small or large, so that people really feel proud of being from Foggia”, declared Luxuria.

A NEW CHAPTER FOR THE GIORDANO THEATER
With the appointment of Luxuria, the Giordano Theater is preparing to open a new chapter. His experience and passion for art and culture, together with his commitment to inclusiveness and diversity, promise to bring a breath of freshness and innovation to the theatre.
