Diomedei, the fields of Foggia’s green rebirth

The park is being completed with the support of the Puglia Region which sold approximately 20 hectares of its property free of charge to the Municipality of Foggia, transferring the area of the former Galoppatoio and financing the project with 2 and a half million euros allocated to the Development Fund and Cohesion 2007-2013.

“This is one of the most important projects in the recent history of Foggia –– remarked the vice-president of the Puglia Region and councilor for State Property and Heritage, Raffaele Piemontese, who supported the mayor of the capital, Maria Aida Episcopo –– inserted in a quadrant of the very dynamic city, where other important regional investments have been and are being concentrated, from the one that led, last September, to the opening of the community library of the Faculty of Economics on the corner of via Romolo Caggese and via Marina Mazzei, where a former disused gym was completely restored with regional funding of 1 million and 600 thousand euros; to those who will accrue with the 6 million euros drawn from the autonomous regional budget to contribute to the rebirth of the Mediterranean Amphitheater and with the 7 and a half million euros allocated to encourage the purchase by the University of Foggia of the Miale Barracks in the square Italy”.

In underlining the increasingly close synergy between the Puglia Region and the Municipality of Foggia, Piemontese recalled that the transfer consisted of 19.60 hectares transferred on free thirty-year loan to the Municipality of Foggia, with the latter’s commitment to creating structures and equipment so that the “Campi Diomedei” urban and archaeological park is integrated with the remaining 3.80 hectares which will continue to be allocated to the activities of the Horse Riding Increase Office of the Regional Agriculture Service.

The project covering a total of 23 hectares of the “Campi Diomedei” urban and archaeological park was developed on the documents proposed by a group of professionals led by Professor Efisio Pitzalis, professor of Architectural Design at the Faculty of Architecture of the Second University of Naples, selected in 2012 at the end of an international ideas competition.
