show events in 32 churches

Export cultural events, moments of aggregation aimed at exhibitions, exhibitions, music, lessons outside the historic center. The agreement between was born with this intent Municipality and diocese of Naples thanks to which 32 churches – therefore 32 new spaces outside the usual canals – in suburban neighborhoods will be used to achieve the objective.

I am 13 neighborhoods where the theater churches are located: Vomero, Colli Aminei, Camaldoli, Vasto, Centro Direzionale, Poggioreale, Doganella, Secondigliano, San Pietro a Patierno, Scampìa, Piscinola, Chiaiano, Miano, Ponticelli, Barra and San Giovanni a Teduccio. And it is good to underline that these churches will not cease their activities dedicated to worship.

Concretely, how can the space for the churches in question be obtained? The tool is one Convention which involves the signing of understandings, agreements and partnerships with local actors, “in order to encourage synergies and partnerships that go beyond the simple conservation of the historical-artistic heritage”. The activities will be planned “so as not to hinder the pastoral and religious activities of the parishes, nor interfere with the activities of other public or private bodies or institutions present in the same spaces”.

In the pact it is well made clear that the Common must include church spaces in its cultural programming, «in accordance with the Archdiocese». Instead, “the Archdiocese is committed to making spaces available for the cultural initiatives of Common without requesting any compensation”.

The architect of the agreement is the coordinator of the cultural policies of the Municipality Sergio Locoratoloon the other hand he closely monitored the choice of churches Don Antonio Loffredo. «An agreement – explains the mayor Gaetano Manfredi who strongly wanted this synergy as did the bishop Don Mimmo Battaglia – which is in line with the Administration’s vision of creating a polycentric Naples, which aims at the social and cultural development of the entire city.

AND Municipality and Archdiocese they share the objective of making sacred places accessible to carry out cultural activities, promoting the valorization of the historical and artistic heritage of the entire city and at the same time offering new opportunities for meeting and sharing for Neapolitans as well as for tourists”. Center and suburbs – in essence – they should be closer.

«The vision we are aiming for is that of a city that does not have a single centre, restoring the complexity, stratification and connections of the real urban fabric – he explains Locoratol – each neighborhood has its own specificities, these resources must be able to communicate with each other and be made available to all citizens.

The availability of new spaces also represents an important contribution to the growth and development of many realities.” Word to Don Antonio Loffredo director of Diocesan Museum: «With these planning actions, even the suburbs will feel like a center. First of all because they are at the center of a renewed activism of citizens, who will be able to enjoy the musical and artistic performances of many important names from the world of music, art and culture. Thus, our churches, in addition to being a sacred space, can become a holy space, that is, a place in which man is built in the cultural as well as spiritual dimension.”

The locations were not only social centers in the suburbs but also because they were already well equipped to host cultural events. In fact, many of the churches identified are already equipped with theatres, sports fields, parking and refreshment areas and “will become part of a network, through which the Administration will be able to expand and extend the cultural offerings, with important impacts on the areas involved”.
