Pane and Federicus…and Altamura promotes itself

He is the king of the table and of the Altamura economy and we saw him parade in baskets, tables, steelyards, bags and in the “local” hands of the over 2000 participants, young and old, who paid homage to the great Emperor Frederick II of Swabia, in the evocative historical procession that started from the D’Angelo stadium and entered the ancient heart from Porta Bari, reaching the cathedral and gradually the other streets of the center paved like a court party…And so it was with many tourists who came from everywhere, because the promotion of the “Federicus” event lasts all year. Fortis Murgia, which organizes it, with the support of businesses, the support of the municipal administration and the formidable involvement of schools and associations, is working well and the results can be seen with the presence of visitors from outside the region and also from abroad, judging by the accents and languages heard in via Federico II di Svevia.

Sounds, colours, symbols, medieval settings that invite you to also try the pillory, the games, the food or to pose next to the figures who have really taken care of every detail to make a good impression. Starting with the school children, who represent – under the guidance of the teachers – the best investment for the future of the event which is also cultural and economic promotion.

And so seeing loaves of bread, hearing their qualities listed and the invitation to buy Federico’s wheat, with the natural seasoning of extra virgin olive oil for “our food, health and beauty” are a factor that brings added value and promotion of the local production system. Bread and culture and with Federicus the tradition of a supply chain that takes a dive into the Middle Ages and reaches the present day is confirmed. And each passage of the procession is an invitation to delve deeper and perhaps visit the centers that parade with the historical groups: from Altamura to Gravina to Fasano, to name a few, proud of their traditions to the rhythm of drums, blasts of trumpets, wailing of flags, dances, invitations to posthumous repentance as a figure accused of adultery repeated, while a sultan’s favorites paraded ahead with the dance of the seven veils.

Insights into the life of the Middle Ages and the greatness of an Emperor who cultivated knowledge (from science to culture) and international relations of the time from East to West, from the Mediterranean to Northern Europe with peoples of different customs and organizations. A river of history for “Federico” which continues until late at night with various types of shows and to taste what the convent has to offer… Federicus and Altamura cuisine.
