“The latest in the series – he continues – is the memorandum of understanding signed with the University of Reggio Calabria to set up a working group for the protection of the Giovino Dunes.
In fact, it would be laughable to think, as always, that we are joking aside, if it weren’t for the fact that the Dunes of Giovino are a delicate environmental microcosm, inserted in the larger green lung of the Giovino Pine Forest, devastated by Mayor Fiorita’s crazy choice to let us pass through the middle of a cycle path which, in fact, will preclude the delicate dune system from being able to self-preserve and grow towards the pine forest and the hinterland.
But Fiorita was not satisfied as a new “barbarian” with destroying the Giovino dune system but, in fact, it took a lot of his administrative incompetence to lose the regional funding foreseen for the construction of the Giovino cycle path.
In short, to add insult to injury with work stopped and dunes destroyed. Obviously it comes naturally to us to ask publicly, we have already done so in writing, to the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture of the Mediterranean University of Reggio Calabria what his working group will have to protect given that the dune area in Giovino has been devastated by the construction of the cycle lane.
But, if in this truly very ugly story Mayor Fiorita stands out for his loquacity regarding the devastation of the Dunes of Giovino, we wonder what is hidden behind the anomalous silence of the superintendence and environmentalist associations regarding an environmental disaster announced in such a scale that has not been seen in Calabria for several decades”.
