The return round opens in group B of the A1 series field hockey championship and in Castello d’Agogna Cgr Bonomi wins the third consecutive victory by providing the best performance of the season against Superba Genova (4-1). A success which, thanks to the simultaneous defeat of Cus Padova in Catania, allows the Lomellini to come within just one point of the leading pair formed by the Sicilians of Valverde and the Sardinians of Juvenilia (1-4 in Pisa). Having to host all three direct matches with only the away match on the “Cinderella” Cus Pisa pitch, at this point Cgr has its destiny more than ever in its own hands.
A superior category performance provided by Ursone’s eleven who not only confirmed the good things they had shown in the victorious away match in Sicily, but managed to make a difficult match on paper easy, both due to the quality of the opponents and the pressure of having to conquer all the stakes in order not to compromise the chase to the top of the rankings. An important test of maturity that rewards the work of a united collective that seems to have adapted to a more rustic type of hockey seen in the second series.
Two minutes were enough for Bonomi to take the lead with Nicoló Spitale, who was very good at setting up the counterattack maneuver with the support of the invaluable Botsio and diving an assist from his teammate into the net. A few minutes later Rubin doubles on the first available short. The Ligurians show up in the Lomellina area on a couple of occasions, but find an insurmountable wall in Comello. In the third quarter the Genoese closed the gap with Gidsaway who found the right corner to the left of Carrozzo on a short shot, but a couple of turns later Martino re-established the distance by deflecting a perfect cross from Dellizzotti’s left into the net. The 4-1 again bears the signature of Rubin who also converts the second short of the day. In the last quarter Superba tries to reopen the game, but without ever being truly dangerous, while Bonomi wastes a couple of counterattacks to make the spoils even more substantial.
