MESSINA – During a conference held at the Teatro Vittorio Emanuele on the occasion of World Dance Day, the teachers Giovanna Tedesco, Milena Freni and Mariangela Bonanno, respectively president and vice-president of the Dis association (Dance in health) and president of the Sicilian association graduate dance teachers (Asild), reiterated the importance of adequate training for teaching dance.

No more short diplomas to teach: “For years we have been fighting to support and promote our skills acquired thanks to the Academy degree which bring great depth to the teaching of dance and to obtain regulation of the training courses enabling the teaching of the same, and fight thus a purely commercial vision with few skills that has spread in recent years, damaging the entire world of dance”, say the teachers.

A brand for schools with graduate directors: During the conference, the Dis brand was presented, which distinguishes schools with graduate directors. “We are truly satisfied with the path also started by Aidaf (Italian Association of Dance Training Activities) which, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, is studying a law that should come into force shortly to finally establish standardized and regulated paths for teaching of Dance, a profession that will finally become recognized by the State”, explain the promoters of the initiative.

Training to teach not only technique, but also well-being: Adequate training, as the orthopedist Giancarlo Gemelli, the psychologist Annarita Morabito and the professor Chiara Zoppolato, president of the National Dance Academy Foundation, have also explained, guarantees profitable skills, not only from a theoretical, cultural and technical point of view but also in the psychological and health fields.

Speeches by Rossella Brescia and Amilcar Moret Gonzales: Rossella Brescia spoke via video link, underlining the importance of relying on dance schools run by professionals with adequate training. “Dance is a vocation, a passion that comes from within, however to be cultivated adequately and at its best, it is necessary to rely on schools run by professionals who have an adequate training path”.

Italy behind Europe: The dancer Amilcar Moret Gonzales is of the same opinion, highlighting Italy’s delay compared to Europe in terms of legislation for training courses to become dance teachers. “We hope that soon all this will be possible in this country too.”

Gala evening: In the evening, at 8.00 pm, again at the Vittorio Emanuele Theatre, a dance show dedicated to the prematurely deceased teachers Anna Bonaccorsi and Silvana Lo Giudice will be held with the extraordinary performance of the teacher and professional Amilcar Moret Gonzales. The event, moderated by journalist Gianluca Rossellini, represents an important step forward in the fight for the recognition of the professionalism of dance teachers and for the protection of the quality of teaching of this discipline.
