From the risk of losing Pnrr funds, after three unsuccessful tenders, to a broader redevelopment project which involves not only the renovation of the pitch in via Longoni but the creation of a new sports center open to the city.

On the occasion of the Abbondino D’Oro award ceremony at Rugby Como, the mayor of the city, Alessandro Rapinese, presented the new project: two rugby fields, track and accommodation facilities (bars and restaurants), climbing gym, a pump circuit trucks for bikes, padel courts and a green path for outdoor sports.

The structure will be built with the public partnership formula. The preliminary services conference ended in recent days and the Municipality now has 60 days to decide on the public utility of the project presented.

For the sports field in via Longoni the Municipality had planned a project to renovate the existing structure. A 750 thousand euro intervention financed largely with funds from the Pnrr, National Recovery and Resilience Plan. Three times, the tender to assign the works was abandoned and the financing was seriously at risk. The new strategy implemented by Palazzo Cernezzi would make it possible to save the funds and make them flow into a broader intervention plan.
The intervention area extends over 33 thousand 300 square metres. The new redevelopment project includes two rugby fields, one larger, the other smaller, approved for under 13s. Accommodation facilities, bars, restaurants and a panoramic terrace. Then an arena with the redevelopment of the track for various athletic disciplines and inside beach volleyball courts and a free path for bicycles. The plan also includes a climbing gym, padel courts and a wellness circuit.
To avoid the risk of losing Pnrr resources, the new structure must be built by 2026.
