In the night between 26 and 27 April 2024a massive jolt of earthquake shocked the citizens of Naples and Pozzuoli, opening a breach of fear and concern in the nocturnal quiet of the region. The seismic event, recorded by the instruments of the Vesuvian Observatory at 5.44 in the morning, presented a estimated magnitude of 3.9 on the Richter scalewith the epicenter identified off the coast of Pozzuoli and one depth of approximately 3 km.
Despite the intensity of the earthquake, the Civil protection has reassured the population, confirming theabsence of damage to people or material goods. The mayors of Pozzuoli and Bacoli called for calm, confirming that, despite the sudden awakening caused by the earthquake, no significant damage was reported.
The following hours saw other smaller seismic events, with a total of 21 tremors recorded up to 5.58am, many of which are characterized by magnitude less than 1 and depth varying between 0 and 2.8 km. Once again, the situation was carefully monitored by the Civil Protection, which confirmed the absence of damage.
The Campi Flegrei area is known for its bradyseismic movements, which have long been monitored by the competent authorities. Telluric events, although frightening, are part of this peculiar geological dynamic of the region, where the presence of active volcanoes and a complex seismic history require constant monitoring and a prompt response in case of emergency.
During the morning, two other tremors made their presence felt, with magnitudes 0.5 and 2.0 respectively, confirming the persistence of seismic activity in the Campi Flegrei area. Once again, the Civil Protection confirmed the absence of damage from the checks carried out.
Despite the fear and unrest caused by these events, the local population can find comfort in the timely response of the authorities and in the robustness of the security measures adopted to deal with emergency situations of this kind.
